Information on data processing

Privacy and cookies

This page explains in concise terms how data may be processed when visiting francescocirillo.eu.

Controller and purpose of the website

Francesco Cirillo is the controller of the website and of the processing described in this notice. The website has exclusively informational, academic and professional purposes: it presents research activities, publications, a curriculum vitae and related materials.

Technical browsing data

The website is published through GitHub Pages. When the website is visited, the technical infrastructure may process data required to deliver the pages and protect their security and integrity, such as the IP address, date and time of the request, requested page, browser and device information, and data concerning errors or security events. These data result from the normal operation of internet protocols and are not used by the controller to identify or profile visitors.

The custom domain directs visitors to the website hosted on GitHub Pages. The repository does not contain tools enabling the controller to access individual browsing statistics.

Cookies, analytics and local storage

The website does not set cookies and does not use profiling cookies. It contains no analytics services, advertising pixels or other third-party tracking tools.

The website uses the browser’s localStorage solely to remember the selected language. The stored key is francesco-cirillo-language and contains only it or en. It remains in the browser until the user clears the website data or changes the relevant setting; it is not transmitted to the controller or any third party and is not used for tracking.

External links

The pages contain links to academic profiles, publishers, journals and other websites. Loading francescocirillo.eu does not activate embedded content from those services. By opening an external link, the user visits a separate website that processes data under its own privacy notice.

Contact and voluntarily provided data

The website contains no contact forms. Users may email francescocirillostudio@gmail.com through their own email service. In that event, the sender’s address, the message and any other data voluntarily provided are processed solely to read and answer the request and to carry out any related steps.

Legal basis and retention

Technical data required to deliver and protect the website are processed on the basis of the legitimate interest in providing a secure and functional website. Voluntarily submitted data are processed to answer the data subject’s request and, where relevant, to take pre-contractual steps at their request or comply with legal obligations.

Data contained in communications are kept for the time needed to deal with the request and any related steps, unless longer retention is required by law or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Retention periods for technical logs are determined by the infrastructure providers under their respective policies and security needs.

Recipients and international transfers

Technical data may be processed by GitHub, the provider of GitHub Pages, and by other technical parties necessary for the operation of the internet and the domain, within their respective roles. Email communications are also processed by the sender’s and recipient’s email providers.

The use of GitHub Pages and email services may involve processing or transfers outside the European Economic Area. The relevant providers manage such operations through the safeguards required by applicable law, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses, where necessary.

Your rights

Where applicable under Articles 15–22 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679, data subjects may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction or portability of their data, object to processing and not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing. The website does not use automated decision-making.

Requests may be sent to francescocirillostudio@gmail.com. Data subjects also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority or another competent supervisory authority.

Use of artificial intelligence and experimental nature

The website and its archive are experimental and are developed with extensive use of artificial intelligence systems. These tools may support design and development, organisation of materials, drafting and language review, translation, metadata production and technical checks.

Content is subject to human oversight, but the use of AI may still introduce errors, omissions, imprecise wording or outdated links. Citations, bibliographic data, legislation and judicial decisions should be checked against the original sources and the versions published by the competent institutions or publishers.

AI is used in the creation and maintenance of the website; it is not used to profile visitors, make automated decisions about them or analyse their behaviour.
